Alla Loseva about 3rd MiC DRoP

If you have forgotten or did not know, let us remind you about the essence of the event. MiC DRoP is a mini-conference within the Information Systems course. 2-year students learn to write literature reviews, construct citation maps, extract hypotheses from the literature for future research, and make a bibliography. The conference is a form of intermediate control where students present their progress in the form of a poster.

MiC DRoP will be held on March 10. Join to support participants of the conference and find out what concerns the new generation of 2-year students! Details - on the website https://micdrop22.wordpress.com/

For now, read an interview with Alla Loseva about how MiC DRoP changes from year to year, and what insights and solutions she uses to make the student learning process more engaging and useful.

The format of the event remained the same as last year. The only thing that has been changed is that this year all the students of the course participate in the poster session, the number of participants will be higher. Just like the last time, we will divide them into sections,  for example, "education", and "online environment", and the main discussions will take place within the sections.

"Posters will be posted on the website, and conference guests will have no time limit. In this way, we will address the disadvantage of offline poster sessions: absence of the lunch break, during which you need to look through all the posters and get all the ideas" – from last year’s interview with Alla Loseva.

We were delving into literature during the classes. There was more time and tasks for students to read, analyse, compare, and draw their conclusions. It was serious work in the field, I think, more intense than in past years of ИнфСис (abbreviation for the course name, Information Systems). From this, two tracks of participation in the conference appeared: research proposal and field overview.

Some found the research proposal format more convenient: students focused on one aspect of the field and explained the possible design of the research. Those who did not choose the research proposal track were also noticeably excited and reported a variety of insights in the scientific field. At the same time, everyone managed to focus the posters around one central message, the most important conclusion from the analysis. Very interesting findings were presented!

Compared to the previous year, the form of feedback about poster design has changed. At one stage of the poster preparation, students edited the drafts of classmates. Indeed, feedback has also been before, but when you are trying to redesign a poster of a colleague, reshuffle information, and think about colour decisions, that is a different thing. It appeared to be great, I noticed that students considered feedback for their poster design.

During the conference, we will try to implement another good practice, also borrowed from last year – a discussion of general issues. We have a lot of posters, and at the live event, it is impossible to listen to any detailed presentations. Instead, we will organise discussions. Students will look at the work of their colleagues in advance and come up with questions that will be answered from the perspective of their research field. Hence, students can practice different strategies to answer a difficult question, take the opportunity to talk more about the poster, and support the ideas with additional theories that the student read during the preparation of the poster.

The goal of the event, as always, is to create space for brainstorming and the collision of prospects. I look forward to discovering conflicting theories or complementary stories from different scientific fields, and the guys look at their interests in a different way»
