Digital Footprints of Educational Migrations: Opportunities Provided by the New Data

The first results of a new project,' Digital Footprints of Educational Migrations,' were presented at the conference "Education and Global Cities: Prospects of BRICS”.

The project is aimed at researching the Internet and digital society, and conducted within the framework of the Digital Social Sciences and Humanities initiative at the HSE in St. Petersburg. The project is being conducted in SESL by students who receive training in the modern methods of data processing. The data for this project was collected from thousands of user profiles from the Russian social network “VKontakte”, and the results were presented as infographics to reflect the geography of students and the flows between cities and countries.  The project results were presented in a booklet published in Russian and English.
