Conference "Statistical Methods in the Analysis of Economics and Society"

The 6th International Scientific Conference of students and postgraduates, "Statistical Methods in the Analysis of Economics and Society”, was held at the Department of Economic Sciences of the HSE on the 12th to the 15th of May, 2015. This year, members of the SELS staff were participating in the conference for the first time.

The conference brought together students and postgraduates from departments of economics and mathematics from various universities across the country, including St. Petersburg, Perm, Novosibirsk, and Irkutsk. All presenters received a response, constructive criticism and advice on developing their education and thesis projects.

Vera Titkova presented her paper titled "Modern Methods of Studying of the Network Panel Data" and described SIENA, something new for the Russian science method of the analysis of longitudinal networks. With clear examples, she demonstrated the possibility of using SIENA for studies of co-evolution of the network structure in relationships and behaviour.

Even though the presentation didn’t contain any economics components, the audience became interested in a new method of data analysis and the possibility of its application for a wide range of research problems.
