At 16th of October were meeting with postgraduate students from BIGSSS, where both research workers from laboratory and guests presented their studies.

Annabel Centaroo talked about her dissertation, which devotes to research of ethnic composition of pupil’s friend, which usually formed in period of entrance in basic school in Germany. Annabel assumes that strict selection in scholastic educational system in Germany leads to change in pupil’s social capital. During the period of entrance in basic school migrant-children, thanks to different conditions, can be founded on lowest stage of educational system. This fact limits their ability to find “advantageous” friends. This situation exists because migrant parents usually have no idea about system of education in Germany, despite of the fact that their children have high claims on education.

Because of the high level of selection during the entrance in basic school, Germany doesn’t use full opportunities to implementation of migrant’s integration. According to this Annabel puts some questions. How much does social capital change in period of entrance? Is there any influence of social capital on progress in studies of pupils?

To answer these questions Annabel uses friendship network of Germanic migrant children and influence of these networks (strong and weak) on social integration, social conflicts, membership of school and activity in school during entrance. The main method is network analyses.

The second presentation was presentation of Valeria Ivanjushina. She talked about methods in studies of friendship between migrant children in Russian schools. Moreover were described instruments of collection of data and methods of data processing. Besides, in centre of attention were methods: P2, ERGM, which suitable for SNA 9th grade (5905 pupils) in schools of Saint Petersburg.
