Happy Birthday!
On the 26th of November our laboratory celebrated the 3rd birthday. The abbreviation of the laboratory’s title is translated in English as “an elephant”. That is why the elephant has become our “totemic animal” and we collect all the possible images of it.

So, this birthday party became an informal reason to gather together all the colleagues, to take our minds of work and just to have fun. This year we celebrated the lab’s birthday in a “family circle” and the games we played were also homely. To begin with, we decided to call in the elephant him (her?) self. The first task was to create one as we did not have an animal big enough to seem 3 years old.

The researchers were divided into 3 groups and each group got a task to paint a part of the elephant. The groups were supposed not to look into one another’s paintings. The main intrigue was to make all the 3 parts fit to the others. All the colleagues were enthusiastic enough to create a bright and cheerful fairy creature that now decorates one of the walls at the lab.
The next point was to choose a name. Each team proposed one syllable for the name and as a sum we’ve got a funny-sounding “Gujion”.

After this creative but tiring entertainment we took our places around the table and the time for a birthday cake came. Traditionally the most appreciated presents are those which are intellectual, amusing, non-material and about elephants, of course. This year Gujion was presented by a beautiful fairy-tale by Ksenia Tenisheva. Also the Elephant got several poems, post-cards and small souvenir elephants.
The candles were blown out by all of us together. The cake was yummy and the party was joyful.
